Locatelli: With the Caregiver Law, We Are Sending a Strong, Concrete Signal

Rome, 14 Oct – "I would like to thank the 12th Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, its Chair, Mr. Cappellacci, the rapporteurs, Mr. Ciocchetti and Ms. Panizzut, and the parliamentary groups of both majority and opposition for their contribution throughout the legislative process. I also thank the Committee staff, the parliamentary groups and the Ministry's offices for their invaluable support. Today, together, we are sending a strong and concrete signal for the lives of so many people who love and provide care, who do not seek to be replaced, but to be supported by institutions in this journey of love and care."

This was stated by the Minister for Disabilities, Alessandra Locatelli, on the Bill for the recognition of family caregivers, approved by the Chamber of Deputies.

"This law provides for differentiated protections and starts by ensuring concrete support, including financial support, for those who bear a round-the-clock care burden. Protections are differentiated precisely for this reason: to recognize all family caregivers under the definition set out in the well-known Paragraph 255 of Law No. 205/2017, while providing support and measures of varying intensity according to the varying level of care commitment," Minister Locatelli continued. "I thank all the associations that have fought over the years to make this law a reality, and all the families who overcome challenges and difficulties every day. This marks a definitive milestone for the dignity of life and for the caregiving role of every family member. There is no going back from here; we can only move forward."
